“I’m not your average hero. I actually wasn’t your average anything. Just a poor guy working an after-school job at a South Beach shoe repair shop to help his mom make ends meet. But a little magic changed it all.
It all started with the curse. And the frognapping. And one hot-looking princess, who asked me to lead a rescue mission.
There wasn’t a fairy godmother or any of that. And even though I fell in love along the way, what happened to me is unlike any fairy tale I’ve ever heard. Before I knew it, I was spying with a flock of enchanted swans, talking (yes, talking!) to a fox named Todd, and nearly trampled by giants in the Everglades.
Don’t believe me? I didn’t believe it either. But you’ll see. Because I knew it all was true, the second I got CLOAKED.”
I’m a certified Alex Finn fan, so I had to read this even though there are some not so good comments about it. What the heck, I just love this book! I read it in only for three hours, I enjoyed the adventures of reading it that I didn’t notice the time. There are seven fairy tales that were used in this book, The elves and the Shoemaker, The Frog Prince, The Six Swans, The Golden Bird, The Valiant Tailor, The Salad, and The Fisherman and his wife. The story is fun, full of magic and wonderful characters. Johnny is the main character, who works in their shoe repair shop and has a great passion for shoes, but unable to fulfill his dream because they are poor. Then came his once in a lifetime adventure when a princess asked for his help. I like him, his funny at most times, and a very responsible son. There are also many magical creatures who helped him in his journey, like the swans, a fox and a cute rat. Also, Meg, her bestfriend also came along. The romance is wonderful, imagine having a love story that involves magic, that’s quite a unique one. 😉 It also contains a lot of different life’s lessons. I realized that there are few books like this nowadays. Anyway, I highly recommend this book to those who love fairy tales and magic, and those who believe that dreams do come true!
My favorite quote from the book:
“And I’d hate not being with you. You are literally magical.” -Johnny
