Summary from Goodreads:

“Alona Dare–Senior in high school, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, Homecoming Queen three years in a row, voted most likely to marry a movie star… and newly dead.

I’m the girl you hated in high school. Is it my fault I was born with it all-good looks, silky blond hair, a hot bod, and a keen sense of what everyone else should not be wearing? But my life isn’t perfect, especially since I died. Run over by a bus of band geeks—is there anything more humiliating? As it turns out, yes—watching your boyfriend and friends move on with life, only days after your funeral. And you wouldn’t believe what they’re saying about me now that they think I can’t hear them. To top it off, I’m starting to disappear, flickering in and out of existence. I don’t know where I go when I’m gone, but it’s not good. Where is that freaking white light already?

Will Killian–Senior in high school, outcast, dubbed “Will Kill” by the popular crowd for the unearthly aura around him, voted most likely to rob a bank…and a ghost-talker.

I can see, hear, and touch the dead. Unfortunately, they can also see, hear and touch me. Yeah, because surviving high school isn’t hard enough already. I’ve done my best to hide my “gift.” After all, my dad, who shared my ability, killed himself because of it when I was fifteen. But lately, pretending to be normal has gotten a lot harder. A new ghost—an anonymous, seething cloud of negative energy with the capacity to throw me around—is pursuing me with a vengeance. My mom, who knows nothing about what I can do, is worrying about the increase in odd incidents, my shrink is tossing around terms like “temporary confinement for psychiatric evaluation,” and my principal, who thinks I’m a disruption and a faker, is searching for every way possible to get rid of me. How many weeks until graduation?”

Funny. Enjoyable. Simply amazing!

I really enjoyed reading this one which is a huge surprise to me. I totally did not expect anything from it, I just knew that it’s interesting especially with those covers. It seems that the cover with a beautiful blonde girl and a gothic looking hot guy tells us the whole story. I thought it’ll be as predictable as the covers. But I was wrong! This book doesn’t have any predictable parts or scenes. I like how it started, the accident of Alona, and details from it were hidden and answered in the end.

I love all the characters, they grew on me instantly, even though I’ve read it in a very short time. Alona is a witty and funny character. She died in an accident and woke up as a ghost. In spite of her reputation and bitchy attitude, she kindness underneath. I like how blunt she is, she’s honest to tell anyone if she wears an awful outfit. Lol! She’s also brave, especially if she wants to win or achieve her goal. Will, on the other hand, seems like a hottie and he definitely made it on my book boyfriend list. Well, he seems my type, especially with his mysterious side and white teeth. Lol! He said he’s not a goth and of course I believe him even though he likes black and he wears hoodie most of the time. There’s more from him that most people don’t see. One thing I like the most is the alternate POVs, the author really did a good job on creating the characters. She made them lovable and you can identify the two. I think it’s rare that I can find a believable guy’s POV from a female author. Sometimes female authors tend to write girly guy’s POV which is a huge turn off.

I will definitely read the other books from the series and I already have them now. I want more from Alona and Will! 😉

Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far In 2013

toptentuesday2Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This is my first time to participate so I’m excited to share this list! I’ve read 67 books so far so it was hard for me to pick only ten books. LOL! Anyway, here’s my list:

  1. Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles #2) by Marissa Meyer – I love Wolf and Scarlet! They are awesome characters!  I admire how the author created a perfect twist to the series and combined some of the fairy tale characters. This is my best book of the year so far! 🙂
  2. The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden #2) by Julie Kagawa  – Julie Kagawa is one of the exceptional writers and she really did a good job with this one, a fast-paced and action-packed sequel of the Blood of Eden, a dystopian-paranormal series! I love Zeke!
  3. Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare – This is my most anticipated book this year and it didn’t fail me. As you already know, I’m hopelessly in love with Jem, so my heart was breaking while reading it, but I’ve enjoyed every part of it. A perfect ending to the series!
  4.  The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey #3) by Julie Kagawa – I know I’m a bit late reading this series because I was hesitant after reading the first one, but this series grew on me and I’ve learned to love it. This third book is my most favorite so far.
  5. Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder – This is the very book I’ve read in verse and I loved it! It was very emotional, I cried a lot and I love how it was able to capture my heart.
  6. Faking It (Losing It #2) by Cora Carmack – I don’t have to explain much, but Cade is the perfect boyfriend!!! I promise that his own happy ever after is way so much better than the first book. 🙂
  7. Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by R.L. LaFevers – Beautifully written and superb plot, this one is definitely darker and bolder than Grave Mercy.
  8. Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley – This book has a special spot in my heart. I love it because of it’s complete package – funny characters, cool arts and inspiring poems. 🙂
  9. Spark (Elemental #2) by Brigid Kemmerer – I’ve been addicted to the Elemental series, it involves the power of elements and Gabriel’s story is my most favorite He controls fire and he’s literally hot! LOL!
  10. Because of Low (Sea Breeze #2) by Abbi Glines – I think this is the only book from the Sea Breeze series that I really like and that’s because of Marcus! I love him, maybe because he’s a true gentleman and definitely a good boy, and his story is the most wholesome. LOL! 🙂

That’s all!

How about you? What are your top reads so far this year?

Link me up so I can also stop by!

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare: Book Review

Summary from Goodreads:

“Tessa Gray should be happy – aren’t all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, will do anything to save her.”

Speechless. I couldn’t find the right words to describe how much I adore this book. This final conclusion of the Infernal Devices brought out all the emotions in me, I cried and I laughed, I became angry, frustrated, shocked, and then I laughed again. There are so many parts of this book that tore my heart to pieces, yet in beautiful ways.

Cassandra Clara is a talented writer, I have to agree to that. She’s so genius and I admire her so much for creating this wonderful series. I love everything about it. The amazing characters, along with the plot and twists. I will always remember the lovable characters here- Tessa, Jem, Will, Charlotte, Henry, Cecily, Gabriel, Sophie, Gideon, Bridget, and of course Magnus Bane. Even though I’ve always declared my dislike with Tessa, I’ve learned to like her here, and she actually redeemed herself. I have never believed her capability to love Jem and Will at the same time. For me, it was impossible. Or maybe I was just jealous because she can have them both. Haha!

I love and adore it, as much as I love Jem. But I think I love Jem more.
Yes, I do love him, ever since the first book. And I think I have never loved any character from a book as much as I love him. I couldn’t stop myself to compare him with a precious gem, fragile and beautiful, and precious. He’s my precious Jem.

“And I have loved you all this time – a century and a half.” That is my favorite line from him, and I cried a river reading it.

Vanish (Firelight #2) by Sophie Jordan: A Book Review

Summary from Goodreads:

An impossible romance.
Bitter rivalries.
Deadly choices.

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?”

This is definitely a perfect sequel of the series! I can really say that this is way so much better from the first one! Yay! It really filled in, so really good! I love the adventure and romance! I don’t mind the love triangle, I’m still Team Will! But this book made me want Cassian too. I felt “a little bit” confused, because I saw the different side of him. I saw that he really cares about Jacinda. I saw the love, and I totally understand Jacinda for being confused too. And it seems that this book is more about Cassian. I need to reread the first one so that I will not be able to change my heart! LOL! It’s definitely hard to choose between two gorgeous guys, one as draki and one as a hunter. But of course, I’m loyal to Will!

What made me love this book? Of course, the dragon adventures! And I love Tamra, Jacinda’s twin, and the new fact about her, it really thrilled me a lot! I also think that the cover represents Tamra. There is also a huge “event” that happened in this that really made me love it more, and I will not spoil it to everyone, even if it kills me to talk about it. Now I’m off to read the final book from the series, Hidden because I need to know the ending NOW!!!

If you love dragons and romance, I’m sure you will also love this series. 😉

I’ve read a lot of books last month but I wasn’t able to write a proper review. I was kind of busy at work and of course, I also have some personal reasons. LOL! Apparently, I have an account in goodreads where I write my reviews, but some of the books I’ve read only contain few comments and with only “mini-reviews”.

So I give you now my top favorite books I’ve read in July and first week of August that I haven’t written proper reviews. But I really love them! It’s just that, sometimes I’m lost of words and needs a breather. LOL! Or sometimes I’m so lazy to do anything. The following are my top reads and what I actually felt and said after I read the book.

1. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

I love this book! I really don’t have much to say. But I’m so inlove with Alex!! I finished reading it in a day, which is very unusual for me. I couldn’t put it down yesterday, I want to keep on reading and reading.

I love the ending, it’s perfect. I love Alex and everything about him. And I wish he’s real. LOL! I cried and laugh, and I enjoyed it very much.
I’m looking forward on reading the next books.

2. Slammed by Colleen Hoover

Another great YA contemporary book and definitely a tear jerker!
I really love it, and it really made me cry. Actually, I finished reading it last Friday, but I just had the guts to write something today because I’m literally lost. LOL! I love the poetry, the romance, the drama, the characters, and each has really made a mark on me.

3. Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover

I just finished the book and WOW!
I love it as much as I love the first book!
It made me cry again, more I guess.
But in a good way..
A real page turner..
Beautifully written..
It just brought all the emotions in me.
It’s a perfect sequel of Slammed, especially because it’s Will’s POV!
Colleen Hoover is definitely now one of my favorite authors.
I highly recommend it to everyone!
Love it a lot!

4. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

I liked it! At first, i thought it’s a dystopian book. Then I’ve read about dragons, so I think it’s fantasy. But after finishing the book, I’m not really sure now. Lol. Well, i really liked the book!Ana is like other dystopian heroines, she’sfull of questions of her identity. She believes she has nosoul. I also like Sam, the one who helped and saved her. Such a sweet guy..Can’t wait for the next book to come out. I also need more answers! Lol.

5. Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George

Here’s another fairy tale retelling that I love. I admit I’m not very familiar with the story of the twelve dancing princesses until now. And I must say, I love how the book was written, especially the use of words and flow of events. A perfect retelling! I’m a sucker of happy endings and it really feels good to witness some of them, even in books.

OK, that’s all. I’ll post again my top reads next month. Happy reading! 😉
