“Violet can sense the echoes of those who’ve been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.

As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she’d turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike’s tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.”

MY THOUGHTS.

Done with the book! lol. I loved it! It deals more about family dramas, not Violet’s family though, but rather the killer’s family. It is also about her exposure to the FBI and the discovery of her ability and using it to help them. I think it’s not as intense as the first book, but it’s still good, I like the fact that Derting ventures to different types of murders. I like her writing style and for making us confuse sometimes. I also like the killer’s point of view with the use of the 7 deadly sins, and it’s not that creepy anymore compared to the first book. Maybe because of the fact that she is a girl, and we have to guess her identity.

There are new characters introduced in this book, the first are the siblings Megan and Mike. Then, Sara and Rafe from the FBI. Oh my, I have this growing crush on Rafe, he’s hot and mysterious and also, he has a special ability. I like Rafe, but I don’t like him for Violet. Hope it’s not a love triangle. I also hope he will not like Vi, haha.

Derting is definitey a brilliant author, her books are well written and described. And I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of her books. 😉

“Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her “power” to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world… and the imprints that attach to their killers.Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he’s claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay’s intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she’s falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer… and becoming his prey herself.”

MY THOUGHTS.

I loved this book! This is my first YA book that contains a special ability of a body finder, and it seems unique for me. It was so creepy and good at the same time. Yeah, I’m such a coward with books like these, especially on the parts of the killers perspective and how the bodies are discovered. I guess what I like most about the book is the romance part because there are no love triangles, just the usual childhood sweetheart thing. LOL! It’s a positive thing for me because I don’t have to choose teams. LOL! I like the heroine, Violet, because she’s unique, strong, and she admits that she’s scared sometimes but she’s still determined to search the murderer. Of course, I really like Jay, her bestfriend who turned out to be her boyfriend in the middle of the book. Well, it’s obvious. 😉 Jay is such a sweet guy and very thoughtful. And I like the fact that he loves Violet since childhood. Imagine someone loving you for that long!

I will definitely read the second book, but I’m still waiting for my fellow buddy reads. I highly recommend this book to those who loves suspense and romance. 😉
