Boundless (Unearthly #3) by Cynthia Hand: Book Review

boundlessTitle: Boundless (Unearthly #3)

Author: Cynthia Hand

Started Date:  January 28, 2014

Finished Date:  February 1, 2014

Rating: 5/5 stars

Summary from Goodreads:

“The past few years have held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could ever have anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.

Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California – and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.

As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfill her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal.

In the riveting finale of the Unearthly series, Clara must decide her fate once and for all.”

MY THOUGHTS.

A PERFECT ENDING TO THE SERIES!!!

I will definitely miss Clara, Tucker, Angela, and Christian!

I enjoyed everything about it, even though it seems that Clara was so vehement to stay away from Tucker, she still can’t deny the fact that he’s always been her home. She keeps on coming back to him. What I didn’t like about this book is the not-much presence of Tucker! I love him since the first one! I’ve always been Team Tucker, always and I’m loyal to him! Christian is a great guy and I feel so sorry for him. But I just can’t help ask what happened to him in the end, he’s just…gone. I felt bad, it would have been much better if the author gave her a girl for her, someone he really deserves her. Also, I can’t believe Angela’s role in this book, it was really surprising! I’ve read Radiant but still, it surprised me that she has a huge part. I just don’t find her a strong character, and Phen also disappointed me. *sigh*

I love this book, definitely a great angel series! I’ll be looking forward for more of the books from the author! Cynthia Hand is really wonderful! *applause*

Top Ten Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is Top Ten Covers I Wish I Could Redesign;  there are so many book covers that I really love but there are also ones that seem off for me.

redesign

  1. Bloodlines (Bloodlines #1) by Richelle Mead – I’ve been seeing this in most of the posts, and I agree. I just don’t understand the cover at all, there’s no art, they are just two people, doing nothing. LOL!
  2. The Dark Divine (The Dark Divine #1 by Bree Despain – I think those feet don’t match the story of the book, right?
  3. Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1) by Jamie McGuire – This cover confuses me a lot and I keep on staring at it for a long time. I don’t get it at all. I think the original cover, the butterfly inside a jar is much better.
  4. The Host (The Host #1) by Stephenie Meyer – The eye says it all. But the angle and the color of the face are definitely off. I think a full face would do, with a different one eye.
  5. The Madman’s Daughter (The Madman’s Daughter #1) by Megan Shepherd – I really do want to read this one but the cover scares me, it is creepy for me. The sepia effect should be changed, I guess.
  6. The Madness Underneath (Shades of London #2) by Maureen Johnson – This one is also included in those list of redesigned book covers after the first book.
  7. Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver – The covers of the Delirium series are gorgeous but I prefer the original cover of the first book, the one with the title only in a bluish green background. In this set, that cover is really creepy, the girl seems angry or something.
  8. Return to Paradise (Leaving Paradise #2) by Simone Elkeles – Definitely not a good edited cover. The girl and the boy are a bit graphic, they look like painted ones.
  9. Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi – I love the book and this cover is a good representation of Juliette. But of course, the new cover design that contains the eye is more creative.
  10. This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers – this is one of those covers that I don’t understand. LOL! I mean, what is the connection of the hair with the zombies??

Breathe (Breathe #1) by Sarah Crossan: Book Review

breatheTitle: Breathe (Breathe #1)

Author: Sarah Crossan

Started Date:  November 4, 2013

Finished Date:  November 4, 2013

Rating: 5/5 stars

Summary from Goodreads:

“The world has no air. If you want to survive, you pay to breathe. But what if you can’t? And what if you think everything could be different? Three teens will leave everything they know behind in Sarah Crossan’s gripping and original dystopian teen novel of danger, longing, and glimmering hope that will appeal to fans of Patrick Ness and Veronica Roth.

Ever since the Switch, when the oxygen levels plummeted and most of humanity died, the survivors have been protected in glass domes full of manufactured air. Protected . . . or trapped? Or controlled? Alina’s a revolutionary who believes we can save the environment. Quinn’s a Premium who’s never had to worry about having enough air. His best friend, Bea, is an Auxiliary who’s never worried about anything but having enough air. When the three cross paths, they will change everything. Sarah Crossan’s thrilling and provocative novel is about passion, about yearning for something better, and about breaking free for the very first time.”

MY THOUGHTS.

Incredible. It is truly amazing! I love it!

I started this book hours ago and I got hooked. I finished it one sitting and all I can say is it’s a worth read, definitely a good dystopian one.

A world without air would definitely suck, right? I love trees, I studied them when I was in college and imagining a world without them is a horror. I love how the book made us realize that it’s possible to happen and it tells us to be protective of the nature. I love all the characters – Quinn, Bea and Alina. I think it is quite hard to write in three different point of views and it is also hard to read, but this one is not. They are easy to distinguish from each other. I love how the story went on, from knowing the characters first, knowing the world they’re living and how they wanted to be free…

Free to breathe.

I’m looking forward to the next one. 😉

Pivot Point (Pivot Point #1) by Kasie West: Book Review

pivot pointTitle: Pivot Point (Pivot Point #1)

Author: Kasie West

Started Date:  August 08, 2013

Finished Date:  August 11, 2013

Rating: 5/5 stars

Summary from Goodreads:

“Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.”

MY THOUGHTS.

Unique. Interesting. Gripping. Superb!

OMG! I love this book! I just love it! I wish there’s more! I expected a lot and I’m happy that it didn’t fail me!
The best thing about this one is it’s uniqueness, it’s different from other paranormal/sci-fi books. Addie is a Searcher, a clairvoyant, she Searches and she can look into the future and see the outcome. It find it very unique that the author picked that kind of ability for a heroine. At first, I thought it was a lame power, especially the fact that it only works for her. But it’s an advantage when it comes to choices, right?

Each chapter never fails to surprise me. She’s searching into two paths, one if she agrees to stay with her dad and the other is to stay with her mom. Somehow, events are interrelated, characters seem to be amusing. Duke is the guy if she picks to stay with her mom, that means she also stays in the compound along with the other people with abilities. He’s a quarterback, star player, a hotlicious guy. On her dad side, Trevor is the guy. He’s a silent-type, he reads comics and he draws, he used to be the star player too before he got injured. I was almost nearing the end of the book when I realized who’s her real love interest. I was so confused at first, Duke is such a hottie, you know, every one’s dream boyfriend. Trevor is different, he’s like the one you’ll choose to spend your life with. Ok, so yeah, I’m Team Trevor on this one. *squeals* *fan-girling*

I love this book and it such a pain to wait for the second book next year! I want to grab the whole series now!

Hi everyone!

I just want to share my top 12 highly anticipated books that will be published in 2014. It’s already more than halfway of the year so I had an idea to share this. However, I only included those with official covers. I will update this list by the end of the year. I hope the others will have their covers by then.

Gorgeous covers, right? Some of them are the final installment of the series such as Into the Still Blue, Ignite Me, The Offering and Evertrue. I can’t wait for these books!  I hope it’s 2014 already! LOL! 🙂
